NAMED BRITISH OFFICER HOME SERVICE HELMET A British Officers home service helmet from the Gloucestershire Regiment. This regiment has the honor of a front and back badge for their defense at the Battle of the Nile where they fought off the French attack from the front and back. Fluted spike sits atop a cruciform base featuring ventilation ports and floral posts. The front badge consists of the crown surmounted by a starburst with laurel leaves and the regiment bandeau. The center is a belt with inscription "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense," (shamed be he who thinks evil of it) surrounding a sphinx seated on the word "Egypt." Chin strap drapes across helmet, however appears to have been made for a smaller model, as it does not fit completely. Rear ventilation spine has laurel leaves and sphinx badge mounted. Black cloth over cork construction, Hawkes & Co. manufacture stamp and named to an "Andrews." Accompanied by W. Cater & Co carrying box, however not associated with original owner. Box named to "J.W.H.P" of the Army Ordinance Department. , Size: 13" tall, 11" long, 7" wide, Est. 600-800, Lot 30742
