HERO SCREEN-USED STEPPER MO- TOR-DRIVEN TURBOLASER TOWER FROM STAR WARS: EPISODE VI – RETURN OF THE JEDI - (TCF, 1983) Turbolasers are an integral component of the Death Star’s defenses. This hero Turbolaser Tower was built with a computer-controlled stepper motor in order to sync with the motion control camera during the filming of the climactic assault on the new Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Standing 15 in. tall, the tower tapers slightly and is topped off with a square rotating turret fitted with two poseable resin laser cannons. The tower is constructed of high density polyurethane foam with the siding scored and detailed to appear like metal paneling expertly painted battleship gray and realistically distressed with rust running down the sides of the tower. The back side of the tower features a 2 3?4 in. x 4 3?4 in. rectangular hole revealing the stepper motor and metal shaft leading to the turret. Fantastically rare, only two motor-driven Turbolaser Towers were built for Return of the Jedi, and only one large-scale motorized tower was built for the original StarWars (which resides at the Lucas Archives). A fantastic, instantly-recognizable artifact from this legendary franchise.
