Winchester M1876 Deluxe, SN E217, octagonal barrel, panel scene deeply engraved with an elk in the forest, gold plated brass insets and 3 barrel bands. Inscribed on gold plated ribbon on opposite panel 'Daniel Hayes, Esq.'. Stocks are deluxe and checkered. Daniel Hayes Esq. is mentioned in the Oxford Times of Chenango County NY as performing the wedding of STIMPSON - HALL, In Coventry, on the 20th Jan 1854, by Daniel Hayes, Esq., Mr. Israel A. Hall to Mrs. Susan Stimpson. Further research needs to be done for more biographical information on this rifle's owner. Provenance: Miki and James J. Mangan III of Fairfield, CT. Size: L. 48.5 W. 4 D. 2" barrel 28" Weight: 9 pounds 14 ounces
