An Italian Sallet/Baruta circa 1450 from the Great Siege of Rhodes, Knight of the Order of Saint John. This exact helmet pictured in the book 'Medieval Armour from Rhodes' page 8 and listed as whereabouts unknown. Milan, circa 1450. Size: 8.25" H. x 8" W. x 9.25" D. Weight: 3lbs *************************************************************************** This Helmet appears on page 8 in the book 'Medieval Armor From Rhodes by curators Walter Karcheski of the Higgins Armory and Thom Richardson of Royal Collections. The Siege of Rhodes of 1522 was the second attempt by the Ottoman Empire to expel the Knights of the Order of St. John from their island stronghold and thereby securing Ottoman control of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Condition: Excavated and restored with modern, well executed replacements of losses.
