Armor, Brass Mail & Helmet, Moro, late 19th C Helmet - Late 19th century Moro brass Helmet and mail armor. A solid brass helmet with a pronounced comb with pierced scrollwork. Brass chain mail with solid brass plates worn by Moro Warriors of the Southern Philippines during the latter days of Spanish occupation. See History below. Mail Size: 27.25" H. x 20.25" W. x 2.75" D. Helmet Size: 10" H x 8" W X 13.25" L Weight: 18lbs both pieces ***************************************************************************************** The Moro people are a population of indigenous Muslims in the Philippines, forming the largest non-Christian group in the country, and comprising about 5% of the total Philippine population. The Moro Rebellion (1899-1913) was an armed military conflict between Moro revolutionary groups in the Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (Minsupala) and the United States military which took place in the Philippines as early as between 1899 to 1913, following the Spanish-American War in 1898.
Condition: Good. Missing ear plates; one skull crack, 1.5" ; one skull pierce 1/8"; missing a 3.25" section of the nape guard. Coat overall missing some rings. Coat Front: top portions of center plates disconnected; neck area missing rings and disconnected in center; left underarm area missing rings; Coat Rear - Three plates missing 50% of metal; rings missing on approx five other plates. Original clasps are intact and functional. Moderate patina throughout both pieces.
