Description

M 1875 sword etched with the words United States Marines and the marine logo on the front and the name of the owner J. B. Maguire opposite. Each side surrounded with scroll and foliate design in near mint frosty etching. Blase ricasso is etched with the maker's name GAUNT and their crown logo above. The hilt is brass with elephant ivory grips having two brass star fasteners and the original braided leather tassel. Guard terminates on either end with acorn finials. Scabbard is nickel plated brass having brass bolsters and drag, marked 82 on the scabbard and top of the blade. Mameluke style after Edward I, circa 1900. PROVENANCE: Dr. James E. Connor ,1939-1994- Ford White House, secy. to the cabinet, administrator to the President. Size: In scabbard L. 36.5" Blade L. 30"
