Description

Mounted Officer's Sword with eagle head pommel, nickel plated hilt, bone grips, etched and engraved blade, nickel plated brass scabbard. Blade is simply etched and engraved with four small panels on the obverse with floral and panoply of arms and the reverse of florals, all on a blued ground. Hilt is nickel plated brass with eagle head and backstrap, langet on obverse a Roman helmet with short sword and the opposite side. Scabbard is nickel plated brass with rings at 'bolsters' and engraved in four panels. PROVENANCE: Dr. James E. Connor ,1939-1994- Ford White House, secy. to the cabinet, administrator to the President. Size: L. in scabbard 37.5" Weight:

Condition

Condition: Blade retains 90% blue with only minor discoloration and rust. Hilt has wear conforming to a thumbprint on backstrap and the collar ring is somewhat loose. Scabbard has a tiny bit of wear especially at the drag end and is lightly dented.
