Description

Carved ivory pipe measuring 6 3/4 inches long. Pipe comes from Commander Franklin Oliver Johhnson estate. We are offering several bring back items from Johnson estate. Franklin Oliver Johnson was commander of the S27 submarine stationed off the coast of China in 1927. He was the last port commander for the U.S. Navy in China until the total exit of United States military after the war. His prestigious ranks were as a Lieutenant Commander 25th of Nov 1936, a Commander on the 1st of Jan 1942, and a Captain on the 21st of June 1942. Commander Johnson served the following commands on the following dates: Captain USS Snapper (SS-185) 16 Dec 1937 - 31 May 1940. Design Division Bureau of Ships 1 Jul 1940 - 1 Nov 1940. Temporary Duty USS Marlin (SS-205) Jun 1942. Commander Submarine Squadron Forty Five 31 May 1943 - 27 Feb 1944, Commander Task Force #93 in Feb of 1944.
