Artist: RICK ALDEN GRIFFIN (1944-1991) Size: 14 x 21 3/4 in./35.6 x 55.1 cm Tea Lautrec Litho The Flying Eyeball imagery accompanying this concert of the Jimi Hendrix Experience is one of the most iconic of the era, and would appear in much of Hendrix’s later promotional material. This is the second printing of BG105. Bill Graham spoke of Griffin’s “lighthearted” approach, but noted that it was also a “very serious approach to his art. What Rick had were those searing color combinations. I look at his ‘Eyeball,’ or his ‘Heart and Torch,’ and I see beautiful, beautiful color, even over and above the beauty of his drawings. He was so skilled with the pen, but what I think made his posters so wonderful was his exuberant use of color. So rich. So warm. Rick had a very delicate strength, and his posters have a special, distinctive look” (quoted in Art of Rock, p. 79).
