Plate legend text: "Common American Swan, / CYGNUS AMERICANUS, Sharpless. / Nymphea flava. - Leitner."; no variants. Framed with 19th Century American style gilt molding with carved ray panel and leaf corner, floated in archival linen mat, and glazed with non-reflective, ultra-violet protection glass; outside dimensions: 37 x 49 1/2 inches. The preparatory "Painting depicts one bird to the left, swimming with feet trailing, behind, and trees beyond the water. In the plate, there is brighter light, the bird is more submerged, and there are yellow Water-Lilys in the foreground. The Water-Lily is of special interest.
