Plate legend text:" Nutall's lesser-marsh Wren, / TROGLODITES BREVIROSTRIS. / Male, 1. Female, 2."; no variants. The preparatory "Painting and plate depict two birds perched on a nest in a clump of grass. In Boston on August 14, 1832, Audubon wrote to a friend that he had finally drawn the rare Marsh Wren he had sought."
