Description

Poseidon God of the Sea Bronze Sculpture, After Barye, 13"H x 7"W x 6"D 11 lbs. This bronze sculpture was produced using the "Lost Wax" casting method. The"Lost Wax" Cast method is the most precise metal casting technique in existence, ensuring exquisite detail of the original host model which is usually sculpted in clay or wax. This "Lost Wax" casting method is an extremely labor intensive and expensive process, but the end results produce a Heirloom Quality Masterpiece!Poseidon (Greek: ??se?d??; Latin: Neptunus) was the god of the sea, storms, and, as "Earth-Shaker," ofearthquakes in Greek mythology. The name of the sea-god Nethuns in Etruscan was adopted in Latin for Neptune inRoman mythology: both were sea gods analogous to Poseidon. Linear B tablets show that Poseidon was venerated atPylos and Thebes in pre-Olympian Bronze Age Greece, but he was integrated into the Olympian gods as the brother of Zeus and Hades. Poseidon has many children. There is a Homeric hymn to Poseidon, who was the protector of many Hellenic cities, although he lost the contest for Athens to Athena.
