A very good breech-load gun cane curio with drop-down trigger. The black horn crook handle is about 5 1/2" along the arc and it tapers to a point. Below it, is a slotted plated-brass collar. With a quarter turn to the left, the breech is accessed for loading a 14mm shell. When the breech is closed by a forward push, the piece is cocked. By twisting the slotted collar, a trigger can drop down for firing. The mechanics work perfectly. The shaft is wood veneer and there is a 2/3" removable brass ferrule to protect the end of the barrel. The overall length is 35" and the condition is very good. It is Continental, ca 1890, and pictures of these types can be seen on page 345, 33/29 of Dike's Cane Curiosa. It is a fine example of the kind. Estimate: $1200-$1800
