A wonderful carved ivory cane of a horse and colt. The elephant ivory handle is 2 1/2" high, 4 1/2" to the side and 2" at its widest. It depicts a large horse with amber glass eyes complete with flowing mane, faux leather bridle, and a bit in its mouth. Additionally, a smaller colt appears to be nuzzling the larger horse. The colt has smaller amber glass eyes and is also wearing a bridle. All of the carving is superb. There is a silver collar partially hidden under the ivory handle. The shaft is fine snakewood with a 2" ivory ferrule. The overall length is 35" and the condition is excellent. It is probably English, ca 1895, and it is a fabulous example of the kind. Estimate: $2500-$3500.
