A splendid silver Unger Brothers cane of American Indians. The silver handle is 4" high and 1 1/4" in diameter. The top has large fancy initials for the original owner and the sides feature a matching pair of 2 1/2" long Indian Chiefs depicted in superb detail. Facial features, headdress with feathers, medallions and beading are all extremely well done. It is stamped at the base with two round Unger Brothers Marks and "Sterling, 925 fine". The shaft is macassar ebony with a 7/8" horn ferrule. The overall length is 36" and the condition is very good with some small dimples in the stem of the handle. On page 236, 13/62, of Dike's Cane in the United States the Unger Brothers catalog page is pictured. It shows this exact Indian heads handle that could have been mounted as a cane or an umbrella. It s American, ca 1890, and it is a great silver figural example from a prestigious maker. Estimate: $2500-$3500
