Description
A wonderful 18th Century French Saint-Cloud porcelain cane. The handle is 2" high and 1 1/3" in diameter. It is decorated in white and cobalt blue "a la Berain" according to Catherine Dike's descriptions on pages 234 and 235, of La Canne Objet D'Art. Additionally, there are pictures of similar pieces on page 238. It features a basket of flowers on top, and a flower garden motif on the sides. There is a 1/3" silver collar that is scalloped and punch-decorated on a malacca shaft that terminates with a brass and iron ferrule that is a full 7 1/3" long. It is staff length at 43 1/3" and the condition is very good. It is ca 1730, and it is a beautiful example of the kind. (The Saint-Cloud Factory worked between 1677 and 1766. These pieces are very scarce and most desirable.) Estimate: $3000-$4000
