UNPUBLISHED VIRGINIA CIVIL WAR MANUSCRIPT AND RELATED ARCHIVES, the rembrances of John Warden Fravel (1844-1912), Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., VA who served in Co. F., 10th VA Infantry, comprising 26 handwritten legal pages detailing his war experiences and Sheriden's burning of Woodstock and the surrounding area. This lot also includes a "TRUTH IN SCHOOL HISTORIES" broadside issued by the Shenandoah Camp, Confederate Veterans, New Market, VA; the May 12, 1898 issue of the "SHENANDOAH PRESS", New Market, VA printing the speech of Hon. John S. Wise at the unveiling of the VMI Cadet monument at the New Market battlefield; newspaper clippings and other Civil war related ephemera; and a small group of Fravel family correspondences not related to the Civil War. Circa 1900.
Provenance: Purchased at the Willard Fravel estate auction, Edinburg, VA. John Fravel was his grandfather.
