Circa late 19th century AD. A cast bronze doorstep with rectangular base incorporating a lead insert, depicting a grinning cat with hollow back resting a paw on a small wall inscribed 'Ye Cheshire Cat'. Bronze and lead, 3.2 kg, 255 mm tall (10"). Ex Douglas Rose Collection. The famed Cheshire Cat was the creation of Charles Dodgson, under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll, in his tale Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, first published 1865.
Fine condition. Very rare.
