221 cid L-head V-8 engine, 85 HP, three-speed manual transmission, live axle suspension with transverse leaf springs, four-wheel mechanically-actuated drum brakes; wheelbase: 112" The Sedan Delivery truck was a staple of Ford’s lineup for several years. It was a well-liked and reasonably priced utility truck that regularly helped bolster Ford’s annual sales. The design of the Sedan Delivery changed over the years; however, it stayed relatively close to the overall shape and form of the five-passenger sedan, with obvious modifications. Ford diversified its lineup with a wide variety of differing trucks, beginning with the capable but modest four-cylinder, all the way up to the famed V-8, as seen in the example presented here. Because of their overall utility, many were delivered new without a front passenger seat as well, truly redefining the word utility. By 1934, the Ford Sedan Delivery truck was one of the most reliable and respected examples in its field. Approximately 9,000 were built and sold that year, and they could be seen on the streets of major metropolitan cities and rural towns alike doing the thankless work needed at all hours of the day. Cosmetically, the 1934 Sedan Delivery trucks remained largely unchanged from that of the 1933; however, the V-8 engine received a new water pump, valve assemblies, pistons, and crank. All in all, they were mechanically reliable trucks that performed exceptionally, and many were driven into the ground, and as a result, few remain today. The example shown here is a highly correct, beautifully restored 1934 Ford V-8 Sedan Delivery. Restored from the ground-up for the Reitzel Brothers in 1998, the all steel Sedan Delivery is as clean underneath as it is up top. It is 100% Ford steel, with a striking refinish in bright orange that was done to very high standards. The panel gaps are excellent, the brightwork as well, and the vehicle shows few signs of wear or aging. The interior is pristine, with the upholstery, headliner, floor mats, and rear compartment all presented in authentic materials. The dash is original, with gauges and controls in fine working order. This Ford is a very fit running example; it is fully sorted and mechanically ready to go to work, with a clean and correct engine bay and smooth shifting transmission. It has been carefully used and well maintained, showing just 44,069 miles on the odometer. This attractively finished and utilitarian Ford is a refreshing departure from the grand opulence of the period and would make a great tour vehicle or, if fitted with corporate decals, would be perfect for any business seeking a higher profile.
