Raymond Mason O.B.E. (1922-2010) Portrait of Captain John Reid,

oil on canvas, signed and dated '43 lower right, 61 x 51cm (24 x 20 in), unframed with a portrait of Margaret Reid, Captain Reid's wife, oil on canvas, unsigned, 76 x 53cm (30 x 21 in), unframed (2) Provenance: the sitters' grandaughter. Executed in the period after Mason was invalided out of the navy, when he renewed his romance with Captain and Mrs Reid's daughter, Joy (see preceding lot), before he left Birmingham for London and eventually Paris.
