Custom Figured Cherry Dining Furniture en Suite
mid 20th century, figured cherry with poplar secondary, the suite consisting of a corner cupboard with broken arch pediment and inset paneled doors (90 x 40 x 16.5 in.); a sideboard in the Late Classical style with shaped backsplash and upper drawers supported by fully turned spiral columns (51.5 x 71 x 20 in.); (12) Late Classical style side chairs with upholstered seats (34 x 16 x 17.5 in.); a Late Classical style three-part banquet table, the "D" ends each with shaped top and single drop-leaf, the center table with two drop-leaves supported by spiral turned legs (30 x 46 x 159 in.; skirt height 25 in.).




The set was originally commissioned to be built by Dr. Herman Lee Donovan, President of the University of Kentucky from 1941 to 1956, and was purchased from his estate by current consignors.
