Sculpture of a woman in a hunched pose by Fransisco Zuniga. Signed "Zuniga 1967 III/VI" at base. The provenance of this Zuniga bronze began with J.E. Adams, who was the former CEO of the White Motor Corporation until his retirement in 1971. White also had an international division; White International. Adams and the late Sr. Carlos Hank Gonzalez, who was a businessman and the former Gobiernador of Mexico, had a personal and business relationship. Together in 1967 they developed and made a deal by 1969, to erect Autocar Mexicana, in Mexico, which was part of White International. During that period, Adams was personally introduced to Sr. Zuniga by Sr. Gonzalez and purchased the piece directly from Sr. Zuniga in 1967. It is signed and dated by the artist. It is III of VI series of Yucateca Sentada. It stands approximately 14.5" in height, from the base of her back to the top of her head, [not including the concrete base], with a circumference of 50 1/2". The base is 12 inches x 12 inches. Adams asked Sr. Zuniga to attach a concrete base to the bronze base, to give the piece an unusually rustic appearance, thereby enjoying the piece outside in his garden. Hence, the weathered green patina, which has beautifully aged. Following Adams' death in 1998, much of his art collection was donated to the Cleveland Museum of Art. His daughter kept a few pieces, one of them including the bronze. As it has been in her family's possession since its conception, this is the first time that this piece has been available in the marketplace. It has been authenticated by Ariel Zuniga. The piece is located in Ariel Zuniga's "Fransisco Zuniga: Catalogue Raisonne/ Volume I: Sculpture 1923-1993". Published by Albedrio in association with Fundacion Zuniga Laborde, A.C., Mexico.
Good. Measurements: 14.5"H from the base of the sculpture to the top of its head. Note measurements do not include the concrete base (12" x 12").
