Study for the Grateful Dead Egyptian Tour. Large, detailed pencil on tracing paper sketch showing the great Egyptian Sphinx in the background with archaeologists unearthing an ancient treasure casket. Griffin was inspired by the early 20th Century British archaeological expedition and dig records of Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamen.

The late Rick Griffin was a unique talent, an outstanding draughtsman with an exceptional imagination. His fame and reputation is legendary. The Toulouse Lautrec and Jimi Hendrix of Rock Art, who inspired his peers... The ultimate wizard. As the psychedelic rock era of the late 60's intensified, so did Griffin's poster images. He is known by both artists and public alike for his individual style and ground breaking graphics. He created work for legends such as Hendrix, Albert King and the Grateful Dead, the logo for Rolling Stone magazine, and many album sleeves. This is rare artwork demonstrating the artists unique draughtsmanship and is an insight into the working process of this great Rock and Roll artist, for America's most famous rock band.
