DECORATED SOAP HOLLOW BLANKET CHEST. This chest has been referenced in publications including "Made in Western Pennsylvania", "The Magazine Antiques", May, 1983, page 1039, and "Ohio Antique Review" Feb, 1988, and is attributed to the Sala brothers. Poplar, pine and chestnut with the original black over red spiral decoration. Strong gold stenciled initials "N. H." on the front with a ghost image of the date "1904" which has been carefully removed at one time. Black painted detail on the dovetailed bracket feet and moldings. Floral decals on case and drawers. Drawers are nailed and have white porcelain pulls. Covered till. 48"w. 20 3/4"d. 25"h.
