Reverend Albert Wagner
(1924 - 2006)
Naomi and Ruth,
Mixed media including acrylic paint, ink, oil stick, and graphite on beaver board,
Signed lower right.
Interpretation: The biblical scene depicted in this painting comes from the Book of Ruth. Naomi was a foreigner who suffered the death of both her husband and two grown sons while living in their wives' native land. One of these daughters-in-law, Ruth, would have been free to remarry after the death of her husband and yet she remained faithfully by her widowed mother-in-law's side. Both women were rewarded by God. The story reflects two important themes in Albert's art: loyalty and love. - Bonita Wagner Johnson
