A VENETIAN ROCOCO STYLE PAINTED AND PARCEL GILT WRITING DESK AND CHAIR
19th Century
A pierce carved asymmetric shell form crest rail undulates across the top of the desk and features ochre ground reserves with hand painted flowers. The rear gallery is supported by a shaped shelf housing two drawers which are supported by a cabinet featuring two drawers with carved and gilt shell form handles with the same hand painted motif. The shaped desk surface is painted green with an ochre reserve bound by finely detailed scroll work. The top supported by a pierced carved apron with single center drawer and delicate cabriole legs with shell form feet. Includes a painted chair with shaped moulded back and twining splat, upholstered seat and shaped apron, all raised on cabriole legs with scroll feet.
Good condition. Wear to painted surfaces commensurate with age.
Desk: 43½ x 38 x 22 inches (110.5 x 96.5 x 55.9 cm).
