Two ancient Italian faience tin glazed apothecary jars - each hand painted - several minor chips to rim and base, several minor hairlines hardly noticeable. Date hand written in old script on back side "1580". 8"H x 5"W. Provenance: From the estate of John Whiteford, Wassaic NY.
Pronia jar: Slight glazing chips around rim, hairline crack approx. 3" extending from the top of rim through the "0" of the date, a small 1" hairline extending downward from the top rim, 3 approx. 1" chips on the rim base and several glazing chips on rim base. Crazing to glaze. Other jar - minor glazing chips to rim, approx. 1" & 2" hairlines extending downward from top of rim - crazing to glaze.
