Mammoth Tooth Embedded in a Partial Mandible
Description
Fossils and RelatedLarge 7 x 8 inch Mammoth Tooth Still Embedded in a Partial Mandible.
This complete, dark brown, Mammoth tooth is still set in a portion of the lower jaw. The outside of the jaw bone has been cut away to reveal the very interesting honey-comb shaped bone structure. The hollows and cavities helped reduce the weight of the jaw as well as allowed blood flow. This fossil is 30,000 to 50,000 years old from Siberia. The alternating rows of dark brown enamel and lighter brown dentine are clearly visible in this museum quality fossil. A single, intact tooth is a highly desired fossil, but one with part of a cut-away jaw is unusual and even more desirable.
