Illuminated manuscript with decorated capital letters, being an original leaf from a breviary (Book of Prayers), French, doublesided vellum sheet, 8” x 6”. The text is all hand-lettered in two columns. Small, 1” margin split at top. There are several decorated capitals in red and blue on both sides, and some words in the text in red. Also, two separated leaves from a book printed in the late 1400s, two doublesided sheets, 11.75” x 8”. Books from this period are called “Incunabula” or books printed during the earliest period of typography, from the invention of the art in the 1450s to the end of the century. There are two nice large red decorative capital letters on each side of the sheets. Scarce. (3 items)
