Iz zhizni germanskogo proletariata. [Scenes from the Life of the German Proletariat], a poster by an anonymous artist. Published by Krasnaya Nov’ Publishing, Moscow, 1924. 107 x 70.5 cm.
A curious Constructivist montage poster produced at a time when a Communist revolution in Germany was seen as virtually imminent. The design incorporates graphic works of several German left-leaning artists, notably Grosz and Kollwitz, making it likely that the poster was produced around the time of the 1st All-German Art Exhibition in Moscow. It also features portraits of the leading German Communists (among them Thalheimer and Brandler, who were later expelled and formed a splinter party) and curious slogans like ”The German Steam-Hammer and Russian Bread Will Conquer the World!”
