Funeral Ticket.- Moore
(Sir John, merchant and local politician, Master of the Grocer's Company 1671-2, gentleman of the Privy Chamber, Lord Mayor of London, bap. 1620, d. 1702).- Funeral invitation ticket addressed to Sir Benjamin Ailiff [Ayloffe] to attend the funeral of Sir John Moore as a Governor, probably of Christ's Hospital, 1p., printed ticket with funereal decoration enclosing panel of text, black wax seal in margin, 2 corners torn away, slightly creased and browned, tipped-in on card, 182 x 240mm., 12th June 1702. "Memento Mori. Remember to Die. You are Desired to Accompany the Corps of Sir John Moore Kt. and Alderman, from Mercers Hall in Cheapside, to the Parish Church of St. Dunstans in the East, on Friday the 12th of June 1702, at One of the Clock Afternoon precisely; by reason there will be a Sermon, and several of the Persons to return into the Countrey the same Evening: And bring this Ticket with you."
