Description
The coffered rectangular top inset with iron lock mechanism, opening to reveal an interior fitted with one compartment, the front of the strong box carved with a scene of the Annunciation on one side, and the Nativity on the other, enclosed within figural columnar supports depicting Eve with a serpent on one side and two babes on the right side, the right side panel carved with John baptizing Christ, the left side panel carved with Adam and Eve with the tree of knowledge and serpent in the Garden of Eden, all raised on bun feet, together with working iron key. 12" H. X 22"W. X 15"D. Condition: light scratches and wear commensurate with age, right coffered panel on lid loose, lacking escutcheon for lock, some old iinsect damage, feet possibly later, generally good. Provenance: Purchased from El Alcazar, San Juan, Puerto Rico, March 2001.
