AN ANCIENT CHINESE CERAMIC IGUANA WINE JAR
Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.).
The large ovoid earthenware jar having a reddish brown glazed body with a modeled iguana superimposed over the shoulder, its mouth serving as a spout; patches of light green glaze remain on the iguana; the surface condition commensurate with burial in the ground over two millennia; with a modern pierce-carved wood stand.
