This Hand Blown Fishing Lure Was Created By Lowell Calkin, Millville, N.J. Born in 1919, Calkin was a maker of custom glass for scientific purposes. Calkin made the majority of his fishing lures in 1939 any many of these baits are so marked. While Calkin placed large glass samples in local shops, he also attempted to sell out of his home. Needless to say, he didn't sell many of these fragile items. Several offered here are the only examples known to exist, some are only one of several and all are very rare. Other than a few post war tubes, Calkin baits are signed in applied raised glass.Dark blue eyes accent this exceptional glass frog, one of the rarest and most desirable of all the Calkin baits. Wire rigged line tie and belly hanger, the single down turned tail hook is built into the bait. In flawless condition with only the belly hook missing. Only a few of these fragile baits are known.
