Steinbach was KIA on 6 June 1944 during the first day of the Invasion of Normandy. His awards include: (1) Purple Heart. Engraved in block letters “DANIEL A. STEINBACH”. Slot brooch with ribbon bar and case. (2) Bronze Star. Engraved in script “Daniel A. Steinbach”. Slot brooch. With ribbon bar and case. (3) Good Conduct Medal. Engraved in block lettering. Slot brooch. With ribbon bar. (4) American Defense. Slotted brooch. Ribbon and ribbon bar tattered. (5) WWII Victory Medal. Slot brooch. With ribbon. (6) Parachute wings. Nice patina. Marked “STERLING”. Presidential Unit Citation with oak leaf cluster. (8) Sharpshooter Badge – “STERLING” with “MACHINE GUN” bar. (9) Expert Marksman Badge – “STERLING”. Bars: “RIFLE” and “CARBINE”.
