Description
Circa 1890, this fabulous Victorian extravagance in miniature displays a most exuberant rendition of the Carpenter Queen Anne style. The late Joe Daole and Patsy Powers (founders of the lovingly remembered Toy Museum of Atlanta) found this charming structure in Pittsburgh - hence the name. It was thought to have been one of a series of models of houses of architectural merit made for an exhibition around the turn of the last century. It does not open so is not a doll house - whether an architectural miniature, a maker's model, or simply a Christmas House used as a part of an elaborate Christmas Garden, this unique polychromed sculpture is 19th century architecture in miniature truly captures the spirit of Victorian style. The ornately decorated gables and finials, the sun burst panels, the layered window cornices, the double level porch railings, as well as the elaborate overhangs which outline each of the four gable, all have their original multicolored finish and retain their original brightness. Truly unique, it is certainly the best architectural model we have seen, ex. Toy Museum of Atlanta - sold in the first sale October 1986
