Civil War DogTags
New York Civil War Regimental ID Dog Tag 1862 Union “Dog Tag,” Attributed to a New York Volunteer, Very Choice Extremely Fine. This Troy, New York Dog-Tag features a large Shield with “Union” emblazoned at the center; surrounding it is the phrase “AGAINST REBELLION 1861.” The tag is punched normally, with the hole right above the center design. The reverse side identifies the bearer of the tag around the perimeter of the item: “CORPL. JOS. FARRINGTON TROY, NY”, which surrounds “Co. G / 169th / REG / NY VOLS.” The detail evident, especially on the shield, is quite striking, with the individual stars and stripes on the emblem still clearly visible with faint traces of original luster present in the legends. (Ex: Stack’s, Ford Auction, Lot #480, at $1035. now housed in an NGC holder.) The 169th took part in both the recapture of Fort Sumter and the Battle of Cold Harbor ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
