English Gilt Silver Dessert Service for Twelve, Plus
English, 1859. A thirty-nine piece sterling gilt silver dessert service, including twelve knives, twelve forks, twelve spoons, two serving spoons and one pair of grape shears, all with elaborate grapevine decoration, housed in a mahogany presentation box, silver marked for London, 1859, and GA for George William Adams (w. 1840-1883), case is labeled Vander & Hedges, Silversmiths/ 26 New Bond St. W.; knife lg. 8.5 in., silver wt. 93.25ozt (2900.5g), Plus, a three-piece sterling silver-gilt luncheon service of a knife, fork, and spoon, marked for London, 1858, and George William Adams (w. 1840-1882); knife lg. 8.75 in., silver wt. 6.44ozt (200.5g).
Provenance: Purchased by a family from Brainard Lemon, Louisville, Kentucky
Presentation box is missing the brass shield that would have been inlaid in the top of the case, box is scratched and scuffed. Luncheon service is monogrammed.
