Description
By Kimura Ryumin 1st, Tokyo, Mid 19th century. , Mid 19th century. The first, a marine ivory reticulated gourd, the veins etched onto the leaves and many of the tendrils intertwining, well-worn. Signed, Ryukei, apparently by the first Kimura. The second, an ivory manju, General Take-Uchi no Sukune holding Ojin. Signed Ryumin. illustrated by a drawing in the MCI at UL of page 678. Provenance: The first, Purchased from Joseph U. Seo, 1957. The second, Sotheby's, London, July 30, 1968; Lot 393. Ex J. Fairley collection, Sale No. 2 (Glendining & Co., 26 February 1953, lot 32)
