the opposing pair shown with wings outstretched perched on flower-strewn white tree stumps set into gilt-bronze openwork Rococo bases
blue crossed swords marks, 35cm high

Provenance: Paul Aaron Franck (1893-1981), silk merchant of Bromley and Grenoble, formerly of Lyons, bought these parakeets directly from his first cousin Pierre Samson in 1925 for 1405 francs. Pierre Samson was the last of the family to direct the famous Paris porcelain firm of Edmé Samson et Cie., founded in 1846 and which stopped production in 1969. Thence by family descent.
