Photographer unknown. Views of people, landscapes and temples of Japan. 1880s/90s. 114 albumen prints, most hand-colored. Between circa 6 x 9 cm and 20,5 x 27 cm. Most prints with title and number in the negative in lower corners, mounted to gilt-edged album boards (edges time-stained, some foxing), bound in contemporary decorative laquer album (cover loose from album, edges chipped, decorative design on cover damaged), annotated below the photos on the mount in German in ink.

Includes some attractive portraits and genre scenes. Also of interest is a four-part panorama of the city of Hakodate mounted on four separate pages, as well as two photos of the Aino people of Japan. – Some prints slightly faded, some with scuff marks, especially in edges, otherwise in good to very good condition.
