Frederick Jacques (1859-1931) was a landscape painter, animal painter, sculptor and illustrator. He was one of the two sons of Charles Jacques (1813-1894) and also a painter and sculptor of the Barbizon school. His son marceljacques (1906-1981) was a painter and curator of the Rousseau Museum in Barbizon. After receiving the medal of honor at the 1889 WorldExpo, he exhibited many times in the exhibitions of the society of painters and sculptors, including a series of prints by Jean Francois Millet. While continuing to paint, Friedrich Jacques has only exhibited original prints or works of other artists (his father, colot, millitt...) in the salon since 1895.In 1900, he exhibited an original "good night" print at the WorldExpo and a "drunkard" print at the salon. In 1910, he and his family moved to Bessie, surkule, where he met the new impressionist painter Maximilian Luce and maintained a special interest in this picturesque village. After the Second World War, the art market witnessed the victory of Impressionism and the emergence of abstract art; Under such circumstances, it is difficult for a painter dedicated to the natural and landscape traditions of Barbizon to succeed. Friedrich Jacques moved to Barbizon from Paris. With the arrival of trains at the end of this century, Barbizon attracted more and more customers. In 1927, he and the painter Paul chaigneau established a local museum there to commemorate the still existing Barbizon school.
