Posters depicting a witches' boiling cauldron were a staple of the illusionist's art, with origins going back to the staging of Shakespeare's famous witches' chant in Macbeth. Orientalist magic shows became the rage at a certain point, arguably starting with a real Chinese magician, Ching Ling Foo and his magician competitors Theo Baumberg, William Robinson, and others.
