Description
Late George III silver entree dish and cover, the shaped outline with gadroon border and shell and acanthus leaf motifs to each corner, the cover with conforming inset border and also with engraved floral and foliate decoration, the detachable handle with acanthus leaf, berries and other motifs (some patched in areas to the cover, which are clearly visible to the interior). Hallmarked Joseph Craddock & William Ker Reid, London 1817. Maximum length of base dish measures 12 inches (30.5 cm), weight 67.55 ozt (2101 grams).
Condition
The entree dish displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. There are numerous deeper scratches, nicks and contact marks visible to both cover and base. The cover has two large areas of very deep scratches and marks to the interior. There are two large patched in areas on opposing sides, clearly visible to the interior and exterior, where seam lines, creases in the metal and solder are all visible. These patched in areas are now surrounded by engraved foliate decoration. Some rubbing to hallmarks and partial distortion to maker's marks, but mainly still legible. Part hallmarks to detachable handle.
