VICTOR SERVRANCKX Fine marquetry dining table, ca. 1925 Inlaid marquetry, chrome-plated metal 30 ⅞ x 63 x 35 ⅜ in. (78.5 x 160 x 90 cm) Victor Servranckx is an important figure in the history of 20th century Belgian art as he was one of the forerunners of Belgian abstract art and one of the leading members of the "Plastique Pure" movement. Having an almost mystical reflection on abstraction, he wanted to create a sense of community in his art. For him, an everyday object can and must be beautiful. This approach to art made it possible for him to bridge the gap between the fine and decorative arts. The mediums were different but the use of pure geometry, shapes and colors was the same.
