Item Details
Description
A green woollen Australian Test Cap, Coat-of-Arms and season embroidered in silks. No makers label to inside, removed by Bradman as originally given to Keith Miller but worn by Bradman throughout the 1946-7 series, with Miller preferring a floppy hat. In good order, considering, with some stitching loss to peak. Match-used by Bradman to record his 680 runs in this series including his World Record Partnership of 405 with Sid Barnes, being 234 in the Second Test, and 187 in the First. Provenance: This cap was gifted by Bradman to stockbroker Timothy Biles, who offered it at Christies, London (Lot 90) in September 1995, where it was purchased by Cameron Tingley. Sold at Lawsons in 2005 to the Moyle Collection, Adelaide; this cap is noted in The Baggy Green (Coward & Fahey) and was exhibited at the National Sports Museum at the MCG from 2008 till November 2012. An exceptional Captain’s cap, accompanied by two letters from Don Bradman to Cam Tingley and Bradman’s inscribed card regarding this gift to Biles.
