Rare late 19th or early 20th century Chinese six-panel, double-sided black lacquered screen or room divider mounted on a stepped base, one side with recessed panels featuring fully formed scenes of village life carved from jade, ivory, mother-of-pearl, and soapstone, giving the buildings and figures a near three dimensional life-like quality, surmounted and flanked by panels of painted bamboo shoots, the reverse side featuring hand painted cherry blossom branches in shades of tan, peach, gold, and white, 85"h x 109"w x 25"d.
