Description
A late Victorian 9ct gold cat's-eye chrysoberyl horseshoe brooch, circa 1880. Designed as a graduated line of circular cat's-eye chrysoberyl cabochons, with split pearl line accent, to the geometric engraved gallery. Length 3.4cms. Weight 9.2gms.
Condition
The lot is in good overall condition with scratches and small dents in keeping with general wear. The pin is base metal. The clasp is a replacement with minor soft solder visible. One of the split pearls near a tip is significantly discoloured. The remaining split pearls are moderately well matched with varying overtones. The cat's-eye chrysoberyl are well matched, one is a possible replacement and has a higher cabochon, with the cat's-eye effect orientated incorrectly.
