France, c.1795, a coin scale with a steel beam equal arm balance (13.5 cm) in length. The five centimeter round pans are in copper. The scales come with two sets of nested weights; one marked "grams" weighs 3017gm for the 5 weights; the other weighs 30.13 gm. There are two lidded compartments for a few fractional weights. Inside the top lid is a well-preserved label which provides expected weights of circulating gold coinage during the early Napoleonic Republic. Dimensions: 19 cm x 5.8 cm x 2.5cm. Complete with both hasps working. An excellent specimen. Kisch, op. cit, P. 127.
