France, c.1825, a coin scale with an equal arm balance with a steel beam measuring 14 cm. in length. The pans are copper and measure 5.3 cm in diameter. There are eight knobbed brass weights marked from fifty grammes down to one gramme (with a crown hall-mark). A wood slide conceals several fractional weights. Inside the top lid is a printed label with three columns of coin weights in livres and francs as well as some foreign coin weights. The lid lists the maker as 'Mecanicien'. The box is rectangular with squared off corners. The top has a "T"-shaped flat handle. Dim: 16 cm x 7.5 cm x 3.3 cm. Both hasp locks work. Ex Malter Auction, Nov. 2002, #141.
